Museum Free Days for October 2011

Free is the place to be in October.

With Autumn and cooler weather approaching kids and individuals will want some refuge from the chilly air.Head to Art Institute this month on Wednesday the 5th and 12th for some family fun. The Shedd Aquarium days in October are the 3rd, 4th, 6th, 11th, 17th, 18th, 24th, 25th, and 31st. Note at the Shedd only the general admission is free you must pay for extras such as the shows and the reef.

The Field Museum has discount days on the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 10th, 24th, and 25th and has the same rules as the Shedd; for activities and traveling exhibits there may be an extra fee. The Museum of Science and Industry is free on the 31st and the Chicago History Museum is free the 3rd through the 7th and the 10th through the 13th.

Other museum like the Swedish American Museum is free every second Tuesday and the Peggy Notebaret Nature Museum is free every Thursday of the month. The Museum of Contemporary Art is free on Tuesdays and the Chicago Children’s Museum is free every Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and 2nd this month.

The Dusable Museum is free every Sunday and the Glessner House and Clark House Museums give free tours on Wednesdays. Lastly some museums are free every day such the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, Smart Museum of Art, National Museum of Mexican Art, and the Oriental Institute.
