It has a loader on it, which is T-ed into the hydraulic line that runs around the back of the seat for a supply and then returns to what used to be a plug to the left of the filler tube. The pump whines a bit, like it's low on fluid.

Feb 20, 2013 · Ok my dad gave me this tractor but now i am about to give it back..it is a 1968 David Brown 880, diesel motor. The hydraulics werent working too good so I took teh drain plug off and drained all the hy/trans fluid. The hydraulic and transmission fluid are the same. The maul transmission needs the hydraulic oil to keep it lubircated.

For some reason, I have a hard time believing this tractor has hydraulics. The loader has a PTO pump, but with everything else, I don't see any signs that the original tractor has hydraulics.

It can be the engine oil pump, the hydraulic pump in the front of the tractor, which runs the loader, or, perhaps, the hydraulic pump in the final drive casing which runs the three-point hitch. Best advice is to keep the engine rpm's relatively low until the oil warms up enough to circulate freely.

May 17, 2013 · Usually a weak relief valve doesn't heat the oil as much as a bad pump because it sends oil back to the tank where it cools. I would get a 5000 psi gauge and check the relief valve settings. You can get them pretty cheap from Northern Tool or other places as pressure washer parts.
